Preserving the Past to Influence the Future
The
production of this web site is only a small part of
the recent efforts to capture the history of Independence
Heights.
|
- Organizations
such as the HISTORIC INDEPENDENCE HEIGHTS NEIGHBORHOOD
COUNCIL under the leadership of Mr. Charles Bolton
are working to establish a new museum on the community
in the Oscar Lindsay House.
- Ms.
Paula Cooper, teacher at Hogg Middle School, has future
plans to write a grant for her students to build a community
garden around the Independence Heights museum.
|
|
- Ms.
Bridgette Phillips, teacher at Burrus Elementary was
instrumental in having her students create artwork depicting
life in Independence Heights displayed at the Houston
Museum of Fine Arts.
- Mrs.
Vivian Hubbard Seals continues to document and share
the rich history of the neighborhood with the larger
Houston community.
|
We
hope that other communities will have similar experiences
in discovering their own LOCAL HISTORY!
